SENIOR SERVICE PROGRAMS
CHEER empowers seniors and those with disabilities to live independently and age in place safely and with dignity. The program pairs homebound, socially isolated seniors with compassionate volunteers who visit them weekly.

Volunteers assist with tasks and errands such as grocery shopping, prescription pick-up, library book returns, or visits to the post office. Most importantly, volunteers provide much-needed companionship and a connection to the outside world.

As the loneliness epidemic continues, CHEER is a lifeline that brings comfort and hope to those who need it most. Through weekly visits, volunteers and clients forge lasting relationships. Our clients report feeling better physically and mentally thanks to the consistent wellness checks and laughs with their companions.

Senior Safety Initiative
The Amy and Mark Shirvan Family Senior Safety Initiative (AMSFSSI) is dedicated to identifying safety risks in the homes of older adults and ensuring they can continue living independently with confidence. Through thorough home safety visits, AMSFSSI helps seniors reduce hazards, prevent falls, and feel more secure in their everyday environments.

Trained staff and volunteers assess each home and provide tailored recommendations to improve safety. Interventions may include removing trip hazards, checking smoke detectors, improving lighting, and installing simple modifications like grab bars or non-slip mats.

In addition to in-home assessments, AMSFSSI offers referrals to additional services when needed, ensuring seniors receive well-rounded support. Every visit provides practical improvements and reassurance that someone is looking out for their well-being.
This initiative is made possible through the generosity of the Shirvan family, whose commitment to senior safety is helping older adults across Bergen County age in place with dignity and peace of mind.
