Art of Motion – Where Dance and Youth Volunteers Soar to New Heights!

ART OF MOTION, Ridgewood, is a non-profit professional studio school of dance, theatre, vocal music, yoga and Pilates. ART OF MOTION involves teen volunteers who mentor youth through teaching dance. This program has really taken off and is now one of the most sought after teen volunteer opportunities in Bergen County.

Lynn Needle and Olivia Galgano, Artistic Directors of Art of Motion have joined forces with Liz Grossman and Karen Sheehy, founders of SHARING THE BARRE, to offer a multitude of programs throughout the year offering classical ballet, modern dance, jazz, and musical theatre including “Introduction to the Broadway Musical”.

Art of Motion –
Where Dance and Youth Volunteers Soar to New Heights!

SHARING THE BARRE is a dance and musical theatre program for children with special needs. Classes are taught by a team of seasoned professionals who hail from Broadway and international touring companies such as the Royal Ballet, Ballet Russe, Nikolais Dance Theatre, and Juilliard.

Teen volunteers working with ART OF MOTION and SHARING THE BARRE get the chance to help in many different aspects of the arts. They teach through one-on-one mentoring using the arts to help developmentally challenged children learn dance and other art forms as well.

ART OF MOTION volunteers are also learning life skills by volunteering as studio assistants, both on and off stage. ART OF MOTION offers teen volunteers opportunities to help as receptionists, junior arts administrators, class assistants, and by shadowing the special needs students during dance classes. Our teen volunteers are introduced to public relations, marketing and such backstage technical work as running sound and lighting boards and working as stage manager, box office and front-of-house manager. A total theatre experience is offered to teens who express an interest and a desire to learn about the performing arts as a profession.

All teens need to get involved is to have a love for dance and an open heart to help others. Volunteers at ART OF MOTION range in age from 10 to 18.

Classes are held year round, 9:00am through 9:30 pm Monday through Friday. Weekend classes are also available. Teens looking to get involved with this program should call Lynn Needle at ART OF MOTION, 201-652-5800.
