CHORE Service   Volunteer Handypersons needed for the Volunteer Center’s Chore Service, which provides free home repairs that keep Bergen County senior and disabled homeowners safe in their homes.  Volunteers should be able to perform minor home repairs that any able-bodied homeowner can do,  and must be available for 1 shift per week—shifts are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm

North Jersey Friendship House, Hackensack, is looking for volunteers to assist at their annual Family Auxiliary Garage Sale. Volunteers are needed to help set up the sale on Friday, September 19 from 3:00-5:00pm and help out at the sale on Saturday, September 20 from 9:00am - 4:00pm.  Shifts are available. NY-NJ Trail Conference
is looking for Front Desk Receptionist who can help out Monday-Friday, 9 am to 1 pm or 1 pm – 5 pm.  This indoor job is all about getting people outdoors.  Volunteer Receptionists greet people, help with answering phones and assist with other tasks important to the day to day operations of the agency. Must be 18 years of age to work alone. 11 to 17 year olds are welcome to volunteer along with a parent or guardian.  Volunteers receive an agency and position orientation.  Please contact Volunteer Manager John Leigh at 201-512-9348 or jleigh@nynjtc.org to find out more and/or apply.

The Adler Aphasia Center is looking for a volunteer Event Assistant to help out with preparation of their annual benefit gala including: stuffing goody bags, setting up tables and chairs, decorating, and clean up. Volunteers are need Sept. 29- Oct. 2.  If you are interested in this position please contact Ava Coffee-Burks at 201-368-8585.

Volunteers are needed to work as tutors for the Hackensack Schools.  Volunteers will tutor elementary school age children after school from 6:30-8:30pm at the Hackensack High School.  Volunteers can call Diana Bermundez at 201-364-1016 to learn more.

HURRICANE SANDY RECOVERY

Hundreds of our Bergen County neighbors are still recovering from Hurricane Sandy.  Find out how you can help the Bergen County VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster), which the Volunteer Center is coordinating at our Recovery Information Center in Moonachie.

Summer Interns Needed!
The Bergen VOAD is looking for some summer intern help at the Hurricane Sandy Recovery Information Center in Moonachie. Students over 18, who can work at least 12 hours a week on a regular schedule are encouraged to apply. This is a great opportunity for students with a background or interest in social work. Please see the job posting for details.

Ongoing Volunteer Help Needed
Bergen County Hurricane Sandy Recovery (www.bergenvoad.org) needs volunteers to help with home restoration projects!  We especially need people with experience with sheetrock, flooring and finishing carpentry but unskilled volunteers are also welcome for smaller jobs. You must be 16 or older and volunteers under 18 must have adult supervision. Please email Marisa Santiago at
