Congratulations to everyone who
participated this year!
Volunteers throughout Bergen County were honored recently at "Celebrate Volunteers", a unique event hosted by the Volunteer Center of Bergen County in conjunction with National Volunteer Week in
April.
Nonprofit organizations of all kinds were invited to bring up to 10 volunteers to the event. No judging was involved; there were no "winners or losers". It was a true community wide celebration of service.
Barbara Lesher, Volunteer Center Board member, chaired this event. Brenda Blackmon, popular news anchor for WWOR-TV/UPN9, once again did a tremendous job as Master of Ceremonies.
A special recognition was given to Lorraine Matys for her many years of promoting the news of voluntary agencies as editor of The Record’s Community Calendar, as well as though her features on the work of non-profits.
Entertainment was provided by The Fine Tuners of North Jersey, a youth group string orchestra under the direction of Arlene Locola.
A special guest was John Zisa, who was a top 40 competitor on television’s “American Idol”.
The audience was thrilled to hear him sing 2 songs, including his own composition, “My Gift”, in honor of the selfless gifts of time and service that volunteers give to the community.
